Courting male's bead belt – fertility symbolism (XBA)

These belts are made for and worn by young engaged men and bridegrooms. They are made of predominantly red and yellow beads sewn onto a strip of rawhide (parfleche) and the colors are symbolic. The yellow symbolises cattle dung, since cattle are the wealth of the Xhosa, and the green, green grass and growing crops.
